Day 5: Just a Bunch of Dirtbags

Day Five in the Land of Buzz and Beans
By JoAnn Harvey (with the help of chatgpt)

I woke in my bunk with a stretch and a sigh,
Thinking, “Oh what a trip! How the days zoomed by!”
Four days of adventure, of laughs and of bees,
Of dirt on our pants and hiking through trees.

They said Day Five would be calm and quite slow,
But then—the coffee door opened—and whoa!
With mugs full of joy and the morning sun bright,
Our chatter was cheerful, our spirits were light.

Frannie let out a cheer with a shout,
“Another day, another sleigh!” we all sang out.
Sergio’s squad (with Diana and crew)
Found many bees—green, tiny, and blue!

Diana D. caught one with sparkle and style,
An orchid bee buzzing in her jar for a while.
Some swung their nets, some used their jars,
Some chased the bees down jungle boulevards!

Pop culture talk was flying like pollen through air,
And Sergio laughed, “You folks sure are aware…
Of movies and actors and celebrity tales!”
He smiled while collecting some bee-collecting pails.

Sergio’s group found a break in the chase,
So they waited around with a smile on each face.
They spotted his bike—what a photo op treat!
They posed on his motorcycle, cool and upbeat!

Evie’s brave team had a mountainous quest,
Up hills and down trails with hardly a rest.
Lea and Chris and Diana climbed proud,
While Derek got sweaty (and muttered aloud)

They placed their bee bowls and made quite the find—
A monkey skull waiting, left well behind.
Meanwhile, Frannie’s crew (Lauren, Errol and Cesar,)
Were calm as can be, through flowers explorin’

Cesar, the bee whisperer, quiet and wise,
Caught bees with a look and a squint of his eyes.
Then empanadas—yum! What a treat!
Plus an iguana dashed by on his four scaly feet.

But the real fun began with a game so absurd:
“Who can bag more poop—oops—we mean dirt!”
Errol kept score with Cesar close by,
While Danilsa’s count was... well, not very high.

With hands full of soil, we helped Lucas prep,
For plants that would thrive with our dirt-filling pep.
Then off to the farm where the Arguedas folks
Shared stories and wisdom and plenty of jokes.

Coffee once grew in neat little rows,
But now bees and herbs in wild patterns arose!
Ivannia taught us with passion and pride,
How her plants heal people from the inside.

We learned and we laughed and we shopped a bit too,
Errol bought so much, products
off the shelf flew!
Then one last surprise to wrap up the night—
A tale of young students with hearts full of might.

From the Big Apple to Tulsa, they made quite a team,
Cleaning up Earth with a bright, hopeful dream.
They’re citizen scientists, pen pals, and more,

Proving that kids can open the door
To a future that’s greener, and kinder, and clean—
The best kind of ending this day could have seen.
